Volcano Bay to Discontinue Tapu Tapu and Virtual Line in 2025
Universal Volcano Bay is by far one of the best water parks we have been to. Between the incredible theme that makes you feel like you have teleported far outside of Orlando to the use of technology to make the park day more enjoyable. Well… one of these stand-out features of Volcano Bay is being discontinued. Universal Orlando announced that on October 1, 2025, Tapu Tapu and the virtual line at Volcano Bay will no longer be used. Keep reading to understand what this means for this water park!
What was the TapuTapu?
When guests entered Volcano Bay, they were given a free TapuTapu wristband to wear in the park. With this, it allowed you to reserve a “virtual spot” in line meaning you did not have to physically stand in a long line. For example, you walk up to Krakatau Aqua Coaster and tap your TapuTapu at the touchpoints, and your band will notify you when it’s time to ride! During this time you could float in the lazy river, grab a drink or hang at your chair.
The TapuTapu also allowed guests to use UniversalPay to pay for food, drinks, merchandise and not have to carry their wallet or cards around all day. Plus, there are a bunch of fun interactive touchpoints around the park that squirt water or play music.
After October 1, 2025, guests will have to stand in a line just like any other water park. There will no longer be a virtual line system!
More Volcano Bay Updates
Universal Orlando has also announced that from October 26, 2026 - March 24, 2027, Volcano Bay will be closed for refurbishment. We do not expect any new rides to be added. However, Universal has not expanded on either one of these updates. If they do, we will update you right here!
